EU support
On 22 May 2006 the construction agreement between AB YIT Kausta and SE Vilnius International Airport was signed. The project 2007/SF/008 Construction of the new Passenger Terminal for Non Schengen flights is financed from the facility 2007-2013 of Special European structural fund. On 12 February 2007 the agreement was concluded with AB YIT Kausta for extra work. The value of the work under the agreements amounts to Lt 105 667 198,30 excluding VAT.
For this project the amount of Lt 14 429 000 was allocated from the EU structural funds and Lt 2 547 000 from co-financing.
Airport Investments in Passenger Security
The Terminal video surveillance system was modernized in 2005. It is of an utmost importance to the Special Security Services supervising order within the airport. Starting December this year one more modern system will be put into operation which will help to identify trespassers trying to get access to the territory of the airport.
Until present, the restricted area has been secured by concrete fencing originally constructed in 1983 and reconstructed seven years ago by installing barbed wire coils barriers. However, in order to improve supervision of the restricted area the perimeter video supervision and signaling system will be installed; that will enable effective aviation security any time during twenty four hours.
According to the specialists from the Private Limited Liability Company FIMA, the 12,5 km long perimeter security project is one of the biggest projects in
1,6 mil. Litas from the European Regional Development Fund was allotted for the implementation of the project.
Trespassing into the restricted area perimeter will be recorded by the modern integrated video supervision and signaling equipment alongside the other existing means.

All mentioned solutions will be integrated into a single control center where complete information on perimeter trespassing shall be recorded, stored and analyzed. Duty Managers will be able to record the trespassing in actual time and to react effectively as well as to review and analyze data stored in the archives.
Consequently, protection of the perimeter will be secured. It is indispensable for ensuring passenger and flight safety and is one of the steps in
