2010 07 29 IATA: Demand Continues Recovery in June

The International Air Transport Association (IATA) announced international scheduled traffic statistics for June which showed continued strong demand growth as the industry recovers from the impact of the global financial crisis. Compared to June 2009, international passenger demand was up 11.9% while international scheduled freight traffic showed a 26.5% improvement.

Why is the European Commission launching a campaign to raise awareness of passenger rights?  
Although the European Union has made great strides in recent years in establishing common passenger rights for those travelling by air or rail, not every European is yet aware of what he is entitled to. This campaign sets out to make all air and rail passengers aware of what rights they enjoy under European legislation and how to make use of them.

The decision by Sir Stelios Haji-Ioannau to resign from the board of easyJet, the airline he founded 15 years ago, is the latest move in an apparent fundamental disagreement about the airline’s growth strategy which Sir Stelios believes is too ambitious.

Ahead of the ICAO meeting of the Volcanic Ash Task Force (EUR/NAT) in Paris tomorrow, IACA and its members urgently call upon the European Commission to show leadership and push for an immediate upgrade to the present procedures for opening and closing airspace based on volcanic ash concentrations.

2010 04 08 British Airways and Iberia Sign Merger Agreement

Iberia and British Airways have today taken a further step towards creating a new leading European airline group by signing their merger agreement. The terms of the merger agreement are consistent with the binding memorandum of understanding (MOU) signed between the two airlines in November 2009.

2010 03 19 Preliminary World Airport Traffic 2009

ACI reports preliminary results of a 2.7 percent decline in global passenger traffic for 2009, reflecting steep declines in the first quarter in most regions but a return to growth activity by year-end. Total cargo volumes retracted by 8.2 percent, while aircraft movements were 5.5 percent below the 2008 level. The preliminary report is based on input from over 900 airports.

UK airports handled 218 million passengers during the 2009 calendar year according to figures published today by the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA), a fall of 7.3 percent (17 million) on 2008, the biggest decline in passenger numbers at UK airports since records began.
