Summer Season to Bring New Routes and Airlines to Vilnius Airport
Vilnius International Airport (VIA) introduced a new timetable of regular flights for the summer season at the end of March. Vilnius Airport meets the summer season with new routes and new airlines, which are to begin to operate flights from/to Vilnius. It is estimated that they should attract around half a million passengers to Vilnius this year.
The greatest news at Vilnius Airport this summer season is the arrival of two low cost airlines Wizz Air and Ryanair. As of 17 April Wizz Air will start to operate flights to London, Cork, Doncaster, Eindhoven, Milan, Rome, Barcelona and Stockholm, while Ryanair will offer flights to Bremen, Dublin, Girona, London (Stansted), Milan and Rome from 2 May.
The old-timer of Vilnius Airport, Estonian Air, has expanded its route map, and apart from its usual flights to Tallinn, Amsterdam and Stockholm (Arlanda) it will also operate flights to Berlin as of 1 May.
In the summer season 15 airlines will operate regular flights in 25 destinations from/to Vilnius Airport. The new timetable will be valid until 30 October.
Segment of Business Clients on the Increase
The number of visitors at the Business Lounge of Vilnius Airport is on the increase. 6,141 passengers visited the Business Lounge within the first three months of this year, which makes 20% more than the same period last year. The number of passengers holding the cards of Priority Pass and Diners clubs as well as loyalty cards (frequent flyer cards) is growing.
“Such a growth in the number of business segment passengers is determined by the introduction of the new routes or more frequent flights from Vilnius Airport, which tend to stimulate additional flow of business passengers: such routes are Amsterdam, Stockholm, Munich, Milan and more frequent flights to Frankfurt,” Simonas Bartkus, Head of Commerce Department of Vilnius Airport, said.
Compared to the same period last year, far more passengers heading for Copenhagen, Frankfurt, Amsterdam, Warsaw, Brussels, Riga, Stockholm, etc were serviced at the Business Lounge this year.
Jewellery and Souvenir Centre Opened
By expanding its range of specialised sales points, the retail-sale network Lietuvos spauda has opened its gift centre at Vilnius International Airport, which focuses on the articles and souvenirs produced in Lithuania exclusively.
“We have shaped the range of products that would best meet the needs of the travelling Lithuanian residents and foreign guests. Therefore, the new gift centre will offer a number of hand-made souvenirs and jewellery items representing our country,” Managing Director of Lietuvos Spauda Dainius Dauparas explained.
The centre will offer unique jewellery, articles of ceramics, textile and linen, wooden toys and other gifts and souvenirs produced in our country.
The new gift centre is located in the sterile area of Vilnius Airport, straight behind the passenger screening post.
New Beverage Vending Machines for Departing Passengers
Vilnius Airport is already equipped with 4 milkshake and coffee vending machines. They were mounted by the company Pardavimo automatai UAB. The vending machines feature a totally new technology manufactured in collaboration between Pardavimo automatai UAB and N&W Global Vending S.p.A. (Italy).
A milkshake and coffee vending machine is mounted in the departures area of the airport and three other machines are located in the sterile area (near boarding gates A4 and A11 and in the non-Schengen area after passing border checks).
New Bus Routes to Vilnius Airport
As of 1 April the company Toks in cooperation with Vilnius Airport introduced new direct bus routes from Palanga to Vilnius Airport through the bus stations in Klaipėda and Kaunas.
The ticket price for Vilnius–Klaipėda route is LTL 50, the price for Vilnius–Palanga route accounts for LTL 55. Additional 5% discount is applied if the tickets are purchased online www.iticket.lt. A detailed timetable and pricelist can be accessed at: http://www.iticket.lt
The route is linked with a route from Vilnius to Palanga, which has already been available to passengers. For the passengers going from Vilnius to the seacoast, the bus departs from Vilnius Bus Station, goes through the airport to pick up the passengers and continues on its route to the seacoast. For the passengers on the route from the seacoast to Vilnius, the bus departs from the seacoast and makes its first stop in Vilnius at Vilnius Airport to disembark the passengers and finishes its route at Vilnius Bus Station.
