In May the Number of Passengers Increased by Almost One-third
The flow of passengers at Vilnius International Airport is gathering pace. This May the largest airport in Lithuania serviced 175,500 passengers, which is 31 per cent more than in May 2010.
The number of passengers transported on regular flights substantially grew by 41 per cent, while charter flights received 5 per cent fewer passengers this May compared to the last year.
“This is the second best result of May in the history of Vilnius airport – only in 2008 we serviced several per cent more passengers than this May,” says Tomas Vaišvila, General Manager of Vilnius International Airport. According to him, such result allows feeling optimistic before the busiest travel months – July and August – and expecting even stronger traffic growth.
This May the record high number of passengers travelled from Vilnius airport to as many as five destinations, including Frankfurt, Riga, London, Kiev and Rome. Riga remains the most popular route from Vilnius – over 20,000 passengers were carried to this destination. More than 15,000 passengers flew to London and Frankfurt, over 10,000 to Copenhagen. It is expected to transport 1.8 million passengers by the end of the year.

Vilnius Tourist Information Centre Was Opened
Vilnius Tourist Information Centre was opened in the Arrivals Hall of Vilnius International Airport. An advertising information terminal has been mounted on the wall in the Arrivals Hall where guests will be able to find information in Lithuanian and English on the main services provided in the city free of charge. The information, which is illustrated with photographs, will help a guest to choose the most suitable service proposals. By offering these services the airport aims at attracting as many tourists as possible and providing everyone with access to information on the city services as well as saving tourists' time and ensuring that no travel-related twists and turns or misunderstandings would darken good mood of the guests.
Basketball Fans Meet the Passangers
Vilnius International Airport together with EuroBasket 2011 is impatiently waiting for the start of the European Basketball Championship and invites passangers to get involved in the frenzy of events by offering a new entertainment in the Airport. Special interactive stands for basketball fans have been installed in the baggage reclaim sector A in the arrivals area of the Airport — it is a special EuroBasket 2011 zone where whoops and waves of basketball fans will welcome and greet all guests arriving to Lithuania and, of course, basketball fans.
You Can Already Visit Exposition on Historic Lithuanian Aviators
The walk dedicated to the most distinguished Lithuanian aviators was opened in the sterile area of the departures hall of Vilnius International Airport. This year Vilnius International Airport celebrates the twentieth anniversary of the company and to mark this occasion airport wishes to present to the passengers an exposition on those persons who contributed to the establishment and development of Lithuanian aviation from its very origins. The walk displays ten posters which present eleven historic aviators of Lithuania. In the future the walk will be supplemented with photos and descriptions of other significant contributors to the aviation of Lithuania.
More Entertainment for Children
Along with all the families in the world, Vilnius Airport celebrated the International Day of the Family on 15 May. On this occasion, the children’s playground located in the passenger terminal has been equipped with a new entertainment facility – dice game to be played on the ground. The game in the playground located in the sterile area, near Boarding Gate A4 has been created on the basis of the motifs from the children’s storybook Milius’ Adventures at Vilnius Airport, published by the airport last autumn. Large colourful dices were created, which have to be thrown as children travel across the game field. The storybook of the airport Milius’ Adventures at Vilnius Airport will be distributed to children free of charge.
