Transportation of Pets


Information by the State Food and Veterinary Service on the non-commercial movement of pet dogs, cats and ferrets in the European Union and their importation from the third countries is provided below.

The non-commercial movement of pet animals shall be considered as the transportation or movement of pet animals if persons travelling abroad carry their pets along (no more than 5 pet animals) without an intention of selling them abroad.

Passengers travelling with pets will find the information provided in Regulation (EC) No. 998/2003 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 26 May 2003 on the animal health requirements applicable to the non-commercial movements of pet animals and amending Council Directive 92/65/EEC and Regulation (EC) No.  454/2008  454/2008 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 21 May 2008 amending Regulation (EC) No. 998/2003 on the animal health requirements applicable to the non-commercial movements of pet animals, as regards the extension of the transitional period useful.
